  Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Frys and a proper charlie

The above quotation was given by Stephen Williams MP when asked for his views about the threatened closure of the Cadburys chocolate factory in Keynsham.

Bristol West’s MP seems to be missing the point. The closure will mean an end to 500 jobs. It will have a devastating effect on our neighbouring community and have unforeseeable consequences to other businesses, amenities and their employees in the area.

Stephen seems more interested in giving us a history lesson and telling us his favourite chocolate than acknowledging the devastating effects or suggesting a method to prevent the closure or obviate the worst consequences. Some people might ask if this is an indication of how out of touch he is with the concerns of real people and hard working families.

Paul Smith added, "As a child my dad worked at Frys on the production line and I know the important role Frys has played in Bristol and Keynsham over the years providing jobs.  It would be a betrayal of all Cadburys  claim to stand for if they move production to chase low wages abroad."

The article was published in the Evening Post on Thursday October 25th 2007.
